Harsha is a product of Nalanda College, Colombo. He had a passion for photography from his school days and had taken up the subject at the National Photographic Art Society of Sri Lanka (ANPAS) in 2001. He had emerged as the batch top in the three-year diploma course and is employed as a lecturer in ANPAS.

Talented photographer Harsha Madhuranga Jayasekara clinched a handful of accolades at the First Fotostar Circuit 2008, dubbed the biggest photographic competition in Sri Lanka.
